On the 12th of December, in a ceremony that took place at the European Parliament, in Brussels, the European Cities of Sports for 2025 were formally announced, with Matosinhos being among these cities. During this ceremony, the flag that formalizes Matosinhos as an European City of Sport in 2025 was handed to the city.
The official opening ceremony of the European City of Sport 2025 will take place on the 25th of January, at 18h00, at Centro de Desportos e Congressos de Matosinhos.
